HR professional reviewing employment documents with a new hire

I-9 Employment Verification Services

Authorized representative services for remote employees and employers throughout Connecticut — completing I-9 verification at a location convenient to your employee.

What Is I-9 Verification?

Federal law requires employers to verify the identity and employment authorization of every individual they hire. Form I-9 must be completed in person, which creates a challenge for employers with remote workers. As an employer-designated Authorized Representative, I meet with remote employees in person to verify original identity and employment authorization documents and accurately complete Section 2 of Form I-9 — at a location convenient to the employee, throughout western Connecticut.

Important: Form I-9 Employment Eligibility Verification is not a notarization. Employers designate an Authorized Representative to review original documents and complete Section 2 of the form.

How It Works

1

Employer Initiates

The employer designates me as their authorized representative and provides the employee's information and the blank Form I-9.

2

Employee Gathers Documents

The employee reviews the List of Acceptable Documents and brings the required original documents to the appointment.

3

In-Person Verification

I meet with the employee at a convenient location, physically examine the original documents, and complete Section 2 of Form I-9.

4

Form Returned to Employer

The completed Form I-9 is returned to the employer for their records, along with copies of the documents if requested.

Acceptable Documents

Employees must present original, unexpired documents. Commonly accepted documents include:

List A — Identity & Work Authorization (one required)

  • U.S. Passport or U.S. Passport Card
  • Permanent Resident Card (Green Card)
  • Employment Authorization Document (EAD)

List B + List C — Identity AND Work Authorization (one from each)

  • Driver's license or state ID (List B)
  • Social Security card (List C)
  • Birth certificate (List C)

This is not an exhaustive list. Refer to the USCIS Form I-9 Instructions for the complete List of Acceptable Documents.
